The day after my final day of cardiology, we packed up and headed south in the evening. The next morning we hopped on a boat with our camping gear and headed to the Channel islands, off the coast just north of L.A. We joined our friends and went on a couple of hikes on fantastic cliffs overlooking the ocean and the mountains near Santa Barbara. They let us take their kayaks out for a spin. We saw sea lions and two whales and were greeted repeatedly by little friendly foxes.
We spent the next couple of days driving down the coast toward San Diego, stopping at beach parks with playgrounds. Then we headed up toward Utah, stopping in Valley Center and Redlands to see my childhood homes. We camped next to Lake Mead under a sky full of stars and a seemingly full moon. We let the kids climb around the Valley of Fire. We once again cleaned Sal's vomit out of her car seat on a road trip. We arrived in Salt Lake just as Easter dinner was winding down.
