Accordion dissection

A few days ago I went to play my accordion and found that a few of the buttons had been pushed in--all the way into the body of the accordion so that they would not come out. All that was required to play the accordion at that point was to open and close the bellows, because the chords were already pressed down. The last time Kate looked into getting the accordion fixed up, the quote was $600, so I knew if I couldn't fix it, this would be the end. I tried to coax the buttons out with a wooden skewer, but it only pressed them in further and almost broke off. I found a couple of youtube videos on how to open up an accordion, and after opening a few wrong sections and having a few 'extraneous' parts fall out with no audible change in performance, I finally found how to access the chamber I needed and pop the buttons back out. It's now as good as old.

I mentioned to Sal that I had fixed it and she said, "I pushed them in with my finger."
